A Night Out In The City with NYT Cooking
If you’ve been following along for a while, you know that so many of the recipes I use and love come from NYT Cooking. I downloaded the app during Covid and have been obsessed ever since. Their recipes are simple but delicious — minimal ingredients without sacrificing flavor, which I love!
So when NYT Cooking reached out and invited my sister and me to an event, we could not have been more excited.
We’ve only been doing this social media thing for a little over a year and just recently started getting invited to events. It’s been so fun to mingle, learn from other creators, and be part of such a creative community. I’m especially grateful to be doing this with my sister — those first few minutes at events can be awkward, but everyone we’ve met so far has been so kind!
The event took place at the NYT Cooking headquarters, right by the Intrepid. It’s where they photograph, film, and test all of their recipes. The space was stunning — filled with beautiful cookware and props. As someone who loves cute serveware, their collection was an absolute dream!
The evening started with cocktails and a chickpea arrabbiata appetizer, and everyone there couldn’t have been nicer. We all mingled for about half an hour before the cooking class began.
When it was time to start, they broke us into groups of five. Everyone in our group was so friendly — we chatted about our content, lives, and everything in between. Honestly, we’ve learned the most about this whole journey from other creators, and it’s always so inspiring to connect.
The highlight of the night was that Melissa Clark — the amazing chef and cookbook author — was teaching the class herself. I’ve always loved her recipes and cookbooks, so it felt really special to learn from her in person. We made a sheet-pan coconut curry with squash and tofu, and a buttery lemon pasta with almonds and arugula. Both were absolutely delicious!
After cooking, we all sat down together at a long table and got to know each other even more. The event was intimate — only about 15 people — so it really felt personal. It’s been so fun seeing everyone’s content today after meeting them last night!
All in all, my sister and I feel so lucky that we get to do these sorts of things together — and that it’s now our job. Each event is different and so special in its own way. I’m already looking forward to the next one!
We all got to go home with a new cookbook that hasn’t come out yet! I’m so excited to start baking all of these recipes!

It was so wild seeing this same event on Kouka Webbs Instagram, like my two favourites I follow crossed paths
