City Day
Things to do in and around Central Park!
For anyone who doesn’t know me, I live in the Bronx right outside the city. It typically takes about 15 minutes for me to drive into the city, so I love bringing my kids there to explore. Last week, my kids and sister in law were on spring break so I planned a day in Central Park. The weather was absolutely perfect so I packed a picnic and we headed down. I booked tickets for a puppet show in the Swedish cottage marionette theater to start the day.
When we arrived the lady checking us in told me I had bought tickets for the Sunday show and they were all sold out! My kids were bummed but the Belvedere castle is right next to the theater so we decided to go check it out. My girls love princesses so whenever we are near Central Park they love checking out the castle. It is free and has great views of the city.
After the castle, we decided to walk through Central Park and found a perfect spot to set up our picnic.
My picnic essentials:
Fruit
Siete chips
Goldfish
After the picnic, we made our way to the Central Park Zoo. We have a zoo pass which literally pays for itself in one trip. I would definitely recommend getting one if you live nearby. My kids love the children’s zoo. You can feed the animals, climb on a life size spider web, and explore the interactive play areas.
We wrapped up our day after the zoo and headed home! I tried to get my three older kids to come with us but they are at the age where they would rather stay in the neighborhood and go out with their friends to the park.
Since I had bought tickets for the Sunday show, we ended up back in the city on Sunday! The show was called ‘Cinderella Samba’ and my kids were so entertained. It is great for all ages! My 1 1/2 year old sat for the entire show and even my 10 year old loved it! The shows are about 40 minutes long, so I love to start my city days off with them.
We had no plans for after the show, so we decided to roam around Central Park and see what we found! We stumbled upon some beautiful cherry blossom trees.
I would definitely try and get to Central Park now if you live nearby! All the trees looked so beautiful. After that we rented a model sailboat. This was so fun and cost 15 dollars for 30 minutes
We ate lunch at the boat house for the first time. We sat in the outdoor section and it’s a lot more casual than the indoor restaurant. I got a veggie panini and my daughter got a lobster roll.
The food was really good and decently priced. We kept walking and saw these boats. I promised my kids next time we are in the city we will rent one!
We made our way to the Bethesda fountain and hung around there for a while listening to all the musicians. My daughters are obsessed with all the little vendors and always check out each one.
We love to stop and see if ‘Central Park Polaroids’ is out and get our picture taken. He charges $20 a picture which is a lot but I love them and always treat myself to one when we go.
I think they come out so cute! We headed back home and I made easy chicken fajitas for dinner.
The city always wipes my kids out because it is a lot of walking, so after dinner we all watched Cheaper by the Dozen 2 and headed to bed. We had an awesome spring break and loved going into the city!
